Crystal Reports Training – Escaping The Data Trap
Crystal Reports training is certainly something most business can benefit from, but perhaps there’s one thing in particular which is of more value than anything else. If there’s one important fact that businesses need to understand and appreciate as far as what Crystal Reports courses can offer it is this: Crystal Reports really do make a difference, even when you think they probably won’t.
The real problem is that businesses today are torn between two completely opposing forces. On the one hand, there’s the rock – the huge mountain of pressure that eats away at time, creating more and more pressure, taking up every spare minute you thought you had, and then finding a few more spare minutes to devour after that.
On the other hand there’s the hard place – the need to develop, expand, manoeuvre into new markets, flex the business muscles and take advantage of fresh opportunities.
The need to do more, versus the need to find an extra thirty or forty hours in a day. The pressure to move forwards versus the strain already being experienced just treading water. The rock, and the hard place.
Yet the truth is that as Crystal Reports training can show, these two forces aren’t entirely opposite, because there’s a single factor that can make them both work to your advantage.
What Exactly Does ‘Passive’ Fire Protection Mean to You?
By: Wilf Butcher, CEO, Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP)
The dictionary will tell you that the word ‘passive’ can be used to define something as submissive, inactive, lethargic and several other somewhat derogatory terms that one would not wish to associate with the important need to protect a building against the hazards of fire. Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary defines the term ‘Passive Resistance‘ as deliberate refusal, which is perhaps nearer the truth in justifying the term ‘Passive Fire Resistance’ to mean a deliberate refusal to allow the passage of smoke and fire.
All very philosophical, but the fact still remains; if you ask people in the street to explain the term ‘Passive Fire Protection’ in all probability they will not be able to give you a confident answer. But does this matter? Do they need to?
The protection of a building and its occupants from the effects of smoke and fire are wide ranging. They start with the conceptual design of the building, move on to appropriate defence mechanisms i.e. fire and smoke detection and alarm, fire extinguishing systems to quash the fire, structural fire protection, reaction to fire systems and compartmentation to contain the spread of fire. Add to this emergency lighting, signage, a well planned and rehearsed evacuation procedure, as well as the fire and rescue services to extinguish the fire and it is easy to appreciate that the whole procedure is a complex and interdependent process.
Using Technology to Gain a Business Advantage
Is your business or organisation asking the right questions? How do you know they’re the right questions to ask, and just as importantly, how do you even begin to validate and quantify the answers?
From Crystal reports training to Microsoft SharePoint there are more opportunities available today than ever before for making technology work to turn raw, meaningless data into information that’s relevant to the questions you need to be asking.
Today businesses have the opportunity to take advantage of Microsoft Business Intelligence training to turn maths into meaning, data into displays and information into something that can really inform you in order to help identify what the business’s needs really are, how it’s doing, who it’s reaching, how effectively it’s performing and where it needs to focus in order to maximise its effectiveness.
As with anything, if you don’t know where your target is, there’s little point in even pretending to aim, let alone hoping you’ll have any kind of success. Through effective business intelligence training it is possible to turn the wealth of data which technology has almost certainly already helped you compile, and start making it work for your business in order to assess where you stand, and where you need to take the next step in order to keep moving forwards.
Sell your skills to schools. Students need you!
More than ever schools and colleges are responding to the needs of their pupils and relating the curriculum to the world of work. Not only is this needed to motivate and engage pupils, it is widely accepted that pupils are leaving school without the work related practical skills and know how. However, where do teachers and educators find all the experts they need? A few hours on the internet would provide some information or they could try a search on School Providers and find hundreds of businesses that provide a service to schools. How does this open up plenty of opportunities for small businesses?
Local businesses should now ask themselves if they can sell their skills to educational establishments. Do you have a business or skill needed by teachers and their pupils? DJs, chefs, beauticians, dancers, actors, authors, magicians and journalists are examples of skills that students need and require. Can you set up school workshops using your drama, dance and public speaking skills? Take a look at the new diplomas that cover a vast array of specialist skills and start selling your expertise. Can you offer a set of resources to compliment your provision? If you have a particular life experience that you can talk about, you could become a school guest speaker and share your experiences.

Fireproofing Your Property With Intumescent Coatings
Fire protection is one of the most important issues ever to be addressed by building owners and facility managers. Many facility features can be optional or arbitrarily implemented by facility managers, but a fire protection program is not. It is so important that no facility can ever be operational without it, because it is a part of the requirements for Building Regulations compliance.
Fire protection systems are critical to the operations of the facility for several reasons. The first and most important is to save lives. Fire protective coatings systems should allow for the safe escape of people when fire breaks out. A slow spread of fire and its rapid extinguishing also preserves the structural soundness of the building and saves assets and the overall infrastructure from costly damage. And in the event of emergency fire-fighting operations, fire protective systems can also prevent any harm to rescuers and fire-fighters on the job.
